Tomb with stone rolled away

A Season of Anticipation

By Todd Wethall | Study Content Specialist

As I walk through a certain big-box store here in America, my frustration with far-too-soon displays of traditions and holidays has faded. Halloween decorations in August, followed by Thanksgiving décor in September, then Christmas displays in October? Really?

On one hand, commercialization and the trap door toward indebtedness can be galling. On the other hand, such displays ignite anticipation. Rekindled memories of family gatherings, food-filled feasts, and joyful celebration fuel an eagerness toward the annual renewal of the holiday season. Anticipation can be as significant as the holiday itself.

Amid Advent, we anticipate our celebration of God’s greatest gift—the coming of His Son, Jesus Christ. While Advent, which means “coming,” traditionally is commemorated on the four Sundays preceding Christmas, God’s people have always been, and should always be, a people of anticipation and Advent.

Millennia prior to Jesus’s virgin birth, at humanity’s darkest hour, in the garden, after our ancestors Adam and Eve gave in to temptation and rebelled against our Father, God did not give up on us. Rather, despite the pain our sin would cause, He promised a Savior who would sacrificially crush our enemy (Genesis 3:15).

And we waited.

Even 700 years before the virgin birth in Bethlehem, Isaiah specifically prophesied, “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14).

And we waited.

As we know, God delivered. A perfect baby, born in a manger, would die on our behalf, defeat death, and give us a renewed and eternal relationship with God. Hallelujah!

And, again, we wait.

Jesus promised that, at a time of His choosing, He will return and introduce a new heaven and new earth where Satan, sin, and death will be eternally destroyed. At this second coming, a glorious, second Advent, all who believe in Jesus will reside with Him amid no more tears, pain, and death (Revelation 21:4).

As we anticipate our celebration of what God has done, let us also—in every season—celebrate and anticipate what God still will do. Whether surrounded by premature holiday trinkets, serving ourselves seconds of our Christmas feasts, or toiling at our everyday tasks, whether looking back in triumph or ahead to glory, “O come let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord!”

    Monthly and December Financial Reporting

As you prepare your monthly financial report, please verify the Host Church Contribution section on the Transactions page to make sure the percent remuneration is accurate.

Confirming and updating this percentage each month before submitting your report will provide our gracious host churches with accurate remuneration.

Please ensure that your December financial report is submitted no later than 12 December. Please also refrain from combining December with November or January reports.

For classes that meet after 12 December, submit what has been recorded up to that date for the December report. Any receipts or disbursements recorded after 12 December should be included in the January report.

Note that online giving for December will be posted on 8 December and will include online donations made up to that date. Online donations made after 8 December will be included in January’s online giving amount, which will be posted on 22 January 2024.

The following articles update you about ways we can better support your financial and facility responsibilities going forward.Automating your requests reduces HQ response times for assisting you with remunerations and facility expenses, requests for banking documentation, and certificates of liability insurance. Thank you for bearing with us as we work to streamline our processes to serve you better and more quickly.

New Process for Requesting HQ Assistance for Host Church or Facility Remuneration and Expenses

    US CLASSES

To standardize intake and tracking of requests for remuneration and specific facility expenses, we have created a new form to ensure timely processing and payment.

This form replaces the process of emailing finance or contacting Leader Support for assistance with these expenses.

Use this form if your in-class donations are insufficient to pay for the following expenses. (If a portion of the fee can be paid, pay that portion, and complete the form to cover the balance.)

    • Monthly remuneration for satellites attached to a base class
    • Monthly leader’s meeting facility remuneration
    • Monthly base class additional fees—fees that are not covered by the 25% standard remuneration amount

A facility use agreement will need to be in place for these fees which might include:

    • Technology, security, and parking fees
    • A church’s request for a fixed amount instead of a percentage of donations

This was posted as an alert in the resource library (Keyword Search: remuneration).

Note: This does not include authorized expenses, such as printing, host church damages, or children’s program. For a complete list of authorized expenses, see the Class Staff Resource (Keyword Search: manual). Please pay any other expenses first from your in-class funds. If HQ assistance is needed for authorized expenses, contact Leader Support.

Note: DO NOT use this form if you need assistance paying the online giving portion of the host church contribution. This is covered by selecting Request HQ to pay for HC Contribution when submitting the monthly finance report.

New Process for Requesting Bank Documentation

    US CLASSES

Current Process: When bank documentation is requested by a class, the current process is to edit your base class meeting details to select the Documentation must be sent to the bank box. This has been followed with email communication to Finance or through Leader Support to gather necessary information.

New Process: To streamline this process, once the box is selected in MyBSF, a form will be emailed to the CA to collect the needed information.

Step 1: A class recognizes a need for bank documentation due to:

    • A change in signatories
    • A new bank account
    • Changing banks

Step 2: The class initiates the request for bank documentation by logging into MyBSF and selecting Class, then Management, then Meetings, then Edit Meeting Detail (of base class), and at the end of page selecting Documentation must be sent to the bank

    • If the class needs documentation for a new bank account, also submit a Report of New Bank Account (F 106) form (Resource Library Keyword Search: F106).
    • If a change in signatories is the result of a class staff change, also submit a Change Request (G 110) on MyBSF. (For more information, see Change Request instructions in the MyBSF Reference Guide).

Step 3: HQ receives the request for documentation and sends the Bank Document Request form link to the CA to complete.

Step 4: CA completes and submits the form through the link provided.

Step 5: The bank documentation request is completed by HQ and emailed to the CA.
